We are proud to announce the results of the American Bank Note Archives Auction, Part V.
The auction took place over two days in Englewood, New Jersey. The total prices realized including the buyer's premium of 18% was $635,500 with the sale of 1222 lots out of the 1820 lots offered. The following highlights will list the hammer prices that do not include the 18% Buyer's Premium. A few of the highlights from the Scripophily portion of the auction include the well known and very attractive 1888, Arizona Territory, "The Gold Mining Company", which hammered for $1,525, as well as the popular "Wells Fargo Mining" from Nevada which hammered for $1,600. An extremely ornate and attractive railroad bond, Lot #772, "Central Railroad of New Jersey" hammered for an impressive $1,250.

Some of the banknote highlights include Lot #347, Hugo Fleury Artwork for Waterlow & Sons which hammered for $1,250; Early New Zealand specimen banknotes by Bradbury did very well with Lot 523, "The Bank of New Zealand", 1870-73 Issue, 10 Pounds hammering for $2,000.  Two extremely rare and desirable U.S. Treasury Certificates from the 1860's, Lots 530 and 531, printed by National or American BNC hammered for $6,250 and $5,500 respectively. An early, 1849 dated, Mormon note signed by Brigham Young sold for $2,600. China proved to be extremely impressive with many lots going over their presale estimates. The well known 14th Century "Ming" note, Lot # 1002 hammered to a lucky book bidder for $7,500; an extremly rare Bank of China, 1918 branch variety from Harbin hammered for an impressive and unexpected $2,300 on a high estimate of $800. A specimen Central Bank of China unlisted "Mei Luk" location hammered for $1,500. Another standout was a "Hunan, Official Money Bureau Private Banknote" that hammered for $2,700 on a $300 high estimate.

Russian and many other notes from around the world made impressive showings.  A more thorough auction evaluation will be coming shortly. We would like to offer our thanks to all who participated and help make our inaugural (but 5th) auction successful. We are anticipating ABN VI in early October, 2010.
